St. Jimmy asked:
I don’t mean making a listing, I mean the basic things I need to get started. Such as, do I need a PayPal account? What do I need for this account (a bank account, credit card, etc.)? How will I wire the funds from purchases to this account? Does signing up for eBay and making a listing actually require any money?

all your assumptions are right.
to open an ebay account is free. to start buying or selling, you need to setup a paypal account. in order to setup a paypal account, you need to attach it to a bank account or a credit card.
paypal is also like a bank so when you sell anything and buyers pay, it stays in your paypal account. you can choose to transfer those money to your bank account(which you would have already setup in paypal) this is free - takes about 5-8 days to see it in your bank account.
ebay and paypal both charges fees when you sell. ebay charges on a monthly basis and deducts it from your paypal account so have money there.
when you start listing, you are not charged anything in ebay… again charges by ebay are done monthly.
dont worry about signing up in both ebay and paypal. no payment is required to sign up in both. putting your bank account and credit card is also not required to completed your sign-up. you can enter these when you decide to start selling.
Yeah you do need a paypal account, when i first started selling/buying on ebay i didn’t even want to think about paypal but its honestly the best (well i think anyway) sometimes you need to put other payment methods aswell, so you can attract all buyers but paypal is the one that get used most, or internet banking.
Signing up for ebay is free, but there is a charge on listings, but you add that to your sale/starting bid price to cover you costs.
One book I found on Amazon.com that could help you is eBay 101: Selling on eBay for Part-time or Full-time, Beginner to PowerSeller in 90 days, by Steve Weber. It has gotten rave reviews so far.
